OMAR ABDULRAHMAN

Who is he? Where does he play?

Well, that's a good question because we've had to go to the far east to find this attacking midfielder playing in Qatar for Al Ain. Well, we discovered him during a morning perusal of the Guardian who say he's a summer transfer target for Manchester City.

Manchester City eh? How come we've not heard of him?

A 21 year old tucked away in the obscurity of Al Ain is not going to be high on everybody's agenda list but Manchester City are well ahead of us, you, and most others as they have already tried to bring Abdulrahman (a tongue-twister for any commentator) to England but faced problems over his work permit.

City academy chief Brian Marwood said, after the UAE striker had a trial at Eastlands, "we enjoyed having him with us... he is a very talented young player. We will continue to monitor him and we are aware of how he's developing".

A Qatari owned club signing a talented Qatari will be g££d won't it?

Go easy on the cynicism now. You would think that City would be looking to expand on their Asian market with a move for this talented afro-haired youngster who his coach, Cosmin Olaroiu, has said "could play anywhere he is that talented". Benfica have also been interested after he lead his country to a Gold Cup success in January and if he does move to Europe he will be the first Emirati to do so. HOW'S THAT FOR A STAT! EH?

So it's not all marketing bluster then?

Oh heavens no. This lad can actually play. He looks like a cross between a young Michael Jackson and Brian May (picture; here)  and he has a lot of physical growing to do at such a junior age, but his technical skills and ability to create between the lines has got Manchester City doing their best to lure him to England.
